Do lash extensions cause styes?

can you get a stye from lash extensions?

The purpose of our natural lashes is to protect our eyes from dust, debris, and bacteria.

Lash extensions themselves do not cause styes or eye infections, however they do create a bigger surface area for dust, debris, allergens, and bacteria to settle on. Lash extensions must be cleaned daily with a cleanser to maintain good hygiene and eye health.

If you wear lash extensions or not, your eyes should be cleaned each day to fully remove makeup, allergens, oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. Makeup brushes should be regularly cleaned and old makeup discarded.

Eye infections can be caused by a lash tech using tools that have not been properly cleaned and disinfected. Before booking your lash appointment be sure to ask your lash artist or studio about their disinfection protocols and if they’ve been inspected by a health inspector. If the space is visibly dirty or the lash tech does not wash their hands before starting your service it’s probably better to walk out and book somewhere else.
