Why do my extensions keep coming out with my natural lashes?

Worried your lash extensions are making your natural lashes fall out? Don’t panic. Finding stray extension on your sink or pillow with a natural lash poking out of it is actually a good thing.

Natural lashes have a natural shedding cycle which isn’t noticeable most of the time. The natural lash cycle includes a growth phase, a resting phase, and a shedding phase. Most people lose 1 - 5 natural lashes per eye per day regardless of whether or not they are wearing extensions.

With extensions, this cycle becomes much more obvious when you see the darker and larger lashes sitting on your sink or pillow.

Having a natural lash and an extension come out together means that the extensions bonded well and stayed on for the entire remaining life cycle of the natural lash.

When can your natural lashes coming out with extensions be a cause for concern? If you notice your extensions regularly falling out with multiple natural lashes attached to the same extension, or even multiple extensions and natural lashes stuck together, this is an indication that your lashes haven’t been properly isolated and you may want to switch to a different tech.

When multiple natural lashes are adhered to the same natural lash, some of the natural lashes will be pulled out prematurely which can result in a thinning lash line. This type of damage is unlikely to be permanent, but can be frustrating. Lashes can take a few months or longer to fully recover.

If your lash extensions are painful, pulling, and glued together, please do not attempt to remove them yourself. A professional removal can avoid damaging or further damaging the natural lashes.

How to avoid this mess in the first place? Go to experienced lash artists, with good reviews, who book 2 - 3 hours for full sets and 1 - 2 hours for fills. Short appointment times are a red flag for most artists. Isolating and properly applying lashes takes time, even for experienced techs. Speed Skill.

If your artist has your extensions coming out with one natural lash, be sure to leave them a good review.
